As Elgar reflects on the inspirations behind his iconic ‘Enigma Variations’ following Alice's passing, the performance also brings to life the friends who influenced this masterpiece. The piece explores not only Elgar's legacy but his enigmatic nature, while featuring live renditions of his music, including a special piano transcription made by Elgar himself and the beloved ‘Salut d’Amour’ dedicated to Alice.

Actor and pianist Michael Lunts has previously crafted acclaimed one-man shows about significant composers like Chopin, Schubert, and Rachmaninov, seamlessly intertwining their music with their life stories. ‘The Enigma of Edward Elgar’ marks his first portrayal of a British composer, showcasing the fascination he feels for Elgar's music and character.

Ticket pricing is £18 or £15 for concessions.

Seating note: Row H, the back row, features high bench seating. The auditorium has steps up the center aisle, so it is advisable to book at the front if anyone has difficulty with steps or heights.

Running time is 1 hour and 45 minutes, including a 15-minute interval.

Latecomers will not be admitted until the interval.
