4-21 February 2026

Round About Hogarth is a vibrant new play that blends history and drama, exploring the unlikely friendship between the renowned painter William Hogarth and the revolutionary actor David Garrick. This wit-filled battle showcases their different perspectives on art and performance, revealing insights into their shared passions and rivalries while delivering humor and heart.

The Tabard Theatre presents the premiere of Gareth Armstrong's latest work, where painter and player collide in a witty battle of egos. Chiswick’s most famous resident, William Hogarth, was the preeminent English artist of the eighteenth century, while David Garrick transformed the English stage. Their tender friendship is tested as Garrick asserts the supremacy of the stage. However, Hogarth has a counter-stroke that will expose their professional disputes.

Gareth Armstrong, an acclaimed actor, director, and playwright with a distinguished career both on stage and behind the scenes, brings these historical figures to life. His previous works include the premieres of A Critical Stage and Fondly Remembered.
