7-8 October 2024
Kidnap is a deeply personal yet darkly comic monologue by Samia Rida, exploring the true story of her childhood abduction to Saudi Arabia by her father. The performance delves into themes of multiculturalism, trauma, and mental health, presented with a unique blend of humor.
In 1980, Samia and her siblings are taken from their home in Chiswick to Saudi Arabia during an access visit. When their father fails to return them, a high court judge orders his arrest, prompting a nationwide air and sea port watch.
Samia Rida's work often reflects her complex heritage, drawing on autobiographical material to examine dark topics through a comedic lens. As a London-born screenwriter of Saudi/Welsh descent, she has been recognized in various mentorship programs for her unique voice in storytelling.
Kidnap will have two performances at the Tabard Theatre this October, presenting an opportunity to engage with this compelling local story.
