Elephant at the Gates

Alces Theatrical Productions Presents

Elephant at the Gates

by Mark R Giesser

Rome. 216 BCE. Hannibal, the great general from Carthage, is about to destroy the city and the citizens of Rome are in panic.

Yet Hannibal hesitates. His prized war elephant is behaving oddly and Amytis, a Roman senator’s wife, has suddenly appeared at his door. Is it a sign from the gods, or simply a distraction?

Following last year’s ★★★★ hit The Devil May Care (Southwark Playhouse), Alces Theatrical Productions return with an innovative new adaptation of the Broadway classic The Road to Rome, written by Oscar and Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Sherwood.

Written and directed by critically acclaimed playwright and director Mark R Giesser, this is an unmissable, comedic tale of love, war, fate… and how one woman and one obstinate elephant changed history.
